Hello, please allow us to tell you a little about ourselves.

Howard Virgil Speelman
HV put the “Glass” in GlassHopper Patterns. He is our creative risk taker and fix it specialist. In 1988 he opened, and still operates, our parent company, ThermoVac, Inc. Bitten by the “glass bug” about 10 years ago, he has since done all he can to learn about and experiment with hot glass. Until 2004 HV taught an off hand glass blowing class offered at Hot Glass Horizons, Portland. Now his focus is on creating new images and product lines for GlassHopper Patterns. His most recent invention, Dicro Slide™, is an exciting breakthrough in the world of dichroic glass. Howard puts his background in mechanics and business together with his lively sense of humor and constant curiosity to turn running our businesses into an adventure.

Georgia Speelman
Georgia puts the “hop” in GlassHopper Patterns. When she isn’t “hopping” to keep up with Howard, one of her favorite activities is clogging. (The play on words seemed appropriate to describe this joint venture.) Retired in 2002 after 33 years in the telecommunications industry, Georgia uses her administrative and computer skills to keep orders and paper flowing. She does test firing, picture taking and web editing while running the office end of things. In her creative moments she designs, and sometimes beads, art glass jewelry using dichroic glass and Dicro Slide™. In her spare time, Georgia is learning to play banjo. Her attention to detail supports Howard’s inventiveness, while their different talents combine to compliment them both.

Cocoa is our resident Alarm Dog and Art Critic. She keeps everyone on their toes!
